If you’re always tired and “needing” coffee to keep you going, here’s what I would do:
1. Audit your sleep hygiene
Just because you’re getting 7-8 hours, doesn’t mean you’re getting good sleep.
- Are you on your phone or watching TV within 1-2 hours before bed?
- Is your room completely dark
- Do you eat your last meal within 2 hours before bed
- Do you get sunlight early in the morning (even if it is cloudy)?
- Do you follow a consistent sleep schedule?
- Do you exercise late in the evening?
- Do you drink coffee or alcohol within 2 hours before bed?
2. Look at your hydration
- The quantity of fluid intake you need is contingent upon a mixture of things such as physical activity levels, the climate you live in, and your overall health status.
- In a perfect world a healthy (mostly inactive) adult living in an average temperate climate should consume at the minimum 1.5 litres of fluid per day. This number is usually increased for anyone who is even remotely active.
3. Assess your gut health and hormones
These can be absolute killers when it comes to our overall energy and drive.
- How is your stress? Do you manage it well?
- Are you eating a lot of processed foods high in sugars and seed oils?
- What toxins are you exposed to? Alcohol, drugs, EMF, chemicals in water or skin care products, etc.
- Do you normally drink from plastic bottles or cups?
- Are you constantly bloated or having stomach pain after eating?
Ask Yourself
I would ask myself these questions and take one step at a time. Improving your energy levels is not going to happen overnight but you will feel better if you take action!
