I Achieved Gains in Strength and Mobility I Didn't Think Were Possible

I was 46 when I first came into contact with Manuel. I had a good level of fitness, I cycled and ran regularly. I was lean and eating what I thought was a reasonable diet. However, playing sports with my children I found my flexibility and strength were waning substantially and my joints seemed to be aching after exercise. If this was how I felt at 46 what did the coming decades have in store. Not the active future I have in mind for myself pre or post-retirement. My flexibility, strength and fitness are going to be critical to my well-being for the second half of my life. Something had to be done, but what? I did some research and resistance training's merits seemed to be beyond reproach. Where to start? What to eat? What exercises? What reps? Was resistance training the right approach, and what are the risks? What are my age-specific concerns? I was daunted, confused and dazed by the volume of contradictory information on the web.

Serendipitously at this point, I crossed paths with Manuel. After a very engaging and enlightening conversation, he offered to help me find direction. The many sessions that followed were novel to me, I ended up doing most of the talking, while he studiously listened and analysed. He managed to elicit what I wanted to achieve, and he had the knowledge and experience to not only provide the exercise, nutrition and coaching that helped me realise my ambitions but also provide the education to ensure I built the skills to be in control of my journey in the future.

I have been working with him for over 15 months. The resulting transformation has exceeded my expectations. I have made gains in strength, size and mobility that I didn't think was possible at my age. I feel great and how I eat, how I train, and essentially how I take care of myself daily have become part of my life, and permanent change is a high watermark. I have never felt so great, inside, and out! I have so much more energy, my stress levels have decreased, I am enjoying my newfound strength and muscle tone.

"I first started working with Manuel about 10 months ago. I am a busy mother to 3 boys and working full time. I was very much living life in “Firefighting” mode, juggling everything and just about treading water to keep myself afloat. I did cardiovascular exercise, running a few times a week and tried various calorie-restrictive diets, but would always regain the weight, and be back to square one again. I was always tired and stressed in general. When things got tough, I would always revert to comfort eating as stress levels went up. When I started working with Manuel, I began to realise how connected everything was. Manuel is a great listener and through our weekly conversations, I began to reflect. I realised I needed to work foremost on my stress levels, as this was impacting my energy levels and impacting choices I was making with food and exercise.

With the help of Manuel’s coaching, I changed the way I approached my week, mindfully reflecting on what went right and wrong. I began to make positive changes, I started to invest some time in planning ahead of each week so that I was not in “firefighting” mode all the time. I also made some more time for myself each day, to ensure that I wasn’t going straight from work into housekeeping and mum duties and that I had some time to draw breath! Over time, through our weekly conversations, we began to explore other aspects, Manuel introduced some additional strengthening exercises and we also focused on my diet.

Manuel always takes the time to explain the science behind everything just how important muscle strength is as we get older, of how important the balance of protein, carbohydrates and fats are in our daily diet. How I should stop thinking about diet in terms of short-term gain, and quick fixes – and only focusing on fat/weight loss.

I have now been following Manuel’s nutrition advice and exercise plan for 10 months. I can honestly say, I have never felt so great, inside, and out! I have so much more energy, my stress levels have decreased, and I am enjoying my newfound strength and muscle tone. I can feel and see the differences in my body.
